James Bennett
James Bennett, P.E., joined JAXPORT as Senior Director, Engineering and Construction in November 2017.
In this position, Bennett directs the port’s marine and landside infrastructure development and manages all engineering and construction operations related to capital improvements. In addition, he works closely with federal, state and local agencies involved in the management and completion of JAXPORT’s major growth projects, including harbor deepening.
Bennett is a licensed professional engineer with extensive experience in senior transportation positions, including more than 20 years with the Florida Department of Transportation, where he served most recently as Planning Manager for District Two, encompassing 18 counties throughout North Florida. Prior to joining JAXPORT, Bennett was the Senior Engineer for RS&H in Jacksonville, working directly with port personnel on the engineering, planning, design and permitting of major development initiatives.
Bennett is currently an elected official in Baker County where he serves on the five-member Board of County Commissioners. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from the University of Florida.
