Captain Bradley Clare

Captain Clare reported as Chief, Office of Port and Facility Compliance at Coast Guard Headquarters in July 2019 with over 23 years of Coast Guard experience and 21 years of Marine Safety experience.

A native of Westminster, California, Captain Clare received his commission from the Coast Guard Academy in 1996 and was assigned to the Coast Guard Cutter ESCANABA as a Deck Watch Officer. His follow on tour was as Senior Watch Officer at the National Response Center.

His following tour from 2001 to 2005 was as a Domestic Inspector and as Chief, Port State Control at Marine Safety Office San Francisco Bay where he helped to implement the Maritime Transportation Security Act and International Port Facility Security Code in Northern California.

From 2005 to 2009, he served as the Chief of Inspections and Prevention Department Head at Sector Juneau. During this time he also completed a 3-month Merchant Marine Industry Training program with the Alaska Marine Highway System and several other state and industry organizations in Southeast Alaska.

From 2009 to 2012, Captain Clare was the Chief of Inspections at Sector Anchorage where he supervised marine and facility inspections and all port security missions in the Coast Guard’s largest geographic area of responsibility.

From 2012 to 2015, he served as the Detachment Chief at the Cruise Ship National Center of Expertise where he managed the tactics techniques and procedures and training program for the Coast Guard’s Foreign Passenger Vessel Examiner Community.

From 2015 to June 2019, he was the Prevention Department Head and Acting Deputy Sector Commander at Sector Miami where he oversaw all vessel and facility inspections, marine casualty investigations, aids to navigation, and vessel traffic within multiple large commercial ports and throughout the Sector area of responsibility.

Captain Clare holds a Master’s of Science Degree in Quality Systems Management from the National Graduate School and has two sons, Jaxon (16) and Nico (14).
